Q1: Why use a hand-held rubber bulb nebulizer to deliver epinephrine mist (EpiMist™)?
A: Delivering epinephrine with a hand-held rubber bulb nebulizer is safe and easy to use. It has been recommended by the US FDA for more than 30 years.
Q2: Does EpiMist™ formulation contain chemical propellant?
No. The EpiMist™ formulation does not contain any propellant, nor any potential harmful chemicals. It is environment friendly.
Q3: What ingredients are in EpiMist™?
A: In each set of EpiMist™, the active ingredient is epinephrine in the form of racepinephrine hydrogen chloride (also known as water soluble epinephrine), and the inactive ingredients are water, edetate disodium, ascorbic acid, citric acid, polysobate-60, all USP grade. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, you should not use this product.
Q4: How many doses are in each set of EpiMist™?
A: One set of EpiMist™ contains 250 doses of epinephrine.
Q5: Do I need to inhale one or more than one dose of EpiMist™?
A: It is known that different people have different treatment response to epinephrine. If your symptoms did not reduce 20 minutes after you inhale one dose and did not have any noticeable side effect, you should ask your doctor if you can inhale two doses to relieve your symptoms.
Q6: What is the right inhalation I should perform in order to inhale EpiMist™ into my lungs?
A: Please review EpiMist™ User Manual for details. First prime the device, then load one dose. Once one dose is loaded, use your mouth to hold the mouthpiece while squeezing the bulb all the way and breathing in at the same time. You may inhale about a half dose from your first squeezing-breathing. Repeat squeezing breathing action one or two more times.
Q7: How often should I clean my mouthpiece of EpiMist™? What should be used?
A: The mouthpiece of EpiMist™ should be wiped after each use with a clean tissue or napkin. You can use water to rinse it.
Q8: Can the mouthpiece of EpiMist™ be rinsed with alcohol?
A: Yes. You can. You may also use alcohol cotton ball or isopropyl alcohol swab to wipe your mouthpiece of EpiMist™.
Q9: How often should I clean my Sprayer Head of EpiMist™? What should be used?
A: The Sprayer Head of EpiMist™ should be wiped before and after each use with a clean tissue or napkin, particularly when you see some dark color on the Sprayer Head as epinephrine turns dark color when exposed to the air.
Q10: How long can EpiMist™ be used?
A: Within 90 days after your first use. After 90 days of your first use, you should discard the whole set. When you contact the manufacturer for any questions regarding EpiMist™ life time, please use your purchase receipt as evidence of the starting time point.
Q11: Why discard EpiMist™ 90 days after your first use?
A: It’s because of potential microbial contamination. Once opened for use, your breath, skin, and fingers will all be carrying bacteria every time they come into contact with the opening of EpiMist™, potentially getting into the product. EpiMist™ has Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to maintain lower pH and naturally inhibit microbial growth, which can safely maintain sterility for 90 days after first use. As a side note, the same kind of rules apply for other products such as eye drops.
Q12: Is the EpiMist™ packaging recyclable?
A: The outer carton for EpiMist™ can be recycled. The EpiMist™ nebulizer is made with plastic and can be recycled accordingly.
Q13: Does EpiMist™ contain gelatin, or preservative chemicals?
A: No. EpiMist™ contains no gelatin, and no preservative chemicals. It is environment friendly.
Q14: Does EpiMist™ contain lead?
A: No. EpiMist™ is lead-free.
Q15: Does EpiMist™ contain steroids?
A: No. EpiMist™ does not contain steroids.
Q16: Why I can’t open the EpiMist™ nebulizer?
A: EpiMist™ nebulizer is filled with the liquid drug in the sterile environment under the special safe light for epinephrine. If you open the EpiMist™ nebulizer, you may introduce microbial contamination and air pollutants to the liquid drug. It will also cause damage to the active ingredient under normal light.
Q17: How to know how much drug is remaining in EpiMist™?
A: Although the bottle of EpiMist™ nebulizer is dark (to protect Epinephrine from light exposure), you can see through the bottle if placed against the light. If you do not see much liquid left, you should order a new set immediately. It is always a good practice to have two units of EpiMist™ in hand. One in use and one as back up.
Q18: Can I use EpiMist™ for food allergy treatment?
A: No. Currently, there is no regulatory approval for this use.
Q19: Can I use EpiMist™ as a rescue inhaler for my asthma?
A: No. Currently, there is no regulatory approval for this use.
Q20: Can I Use EpiMist™ as Sports Performance Enhancing Drug?
A: No. Currently, there is no regulatory approval for this use.
